LBM138: NEW-Family Businesses: Strategies for Separating the Company from the Family
Seminar Cancelled
All participants attending any Landscape Ontario onsite seminar will need to present their proof of vaccination along with photo ID upon their arrival.

Family businesses provide a feeling of togetherness; however, differences in opinion can wreak havoc on relationships. Is there a possibility for structures that can help prevent a breakdown in family relationships? Participants will learn strategies for separating the company from the family.
Items covered include:
1. Treat the company as a company & the family as a family
2. How do we recognize when to separate the two
3. Establish conflict resolution mechanisms
4. Have structures in place
5. Forced Communication is a gift! But Why?

Since various sensitive issues arise in a family business, it is advisable to have governance and management structures for almost everything.

On the business side, it is essential to have a Board of Advisors. On the family side, it is advisable to provide tools such as a Family Constitution and create governing structures such as a Family Council, and depending on the size of the family, a Family Office. Learn what these tools are and why you should consider them.

Having these structures in place clarifies the scope of everyone's roles and responsibilities in improving the business's governance and family cohesion.

Together we will earn about an actual case study and maybe bring your own case study to share and learn from. Come prepared for great conversations and great ideas to take back to your own family!
