EN013: NEW-Green Roof Plants & Growing Media
This full-day course explores plant and growing media science and describes the unique conditions under which green roof vegetation is expected to perform. Attendees will learn how design and planting methods can be used to achieve a variety of aesthetic objectives. Best practices for material supply and scheduling, as well as common maintenance procedures such as irrigation, fertilization, and monitoring are illustrated via detailed case studies.
Learning Objectives:
*Review fundamentals of plant physiology and identify characteristics of genus that are well-suited to green roof applications.
*Understand the biological, chemical and physical characteristics of engineered green roof growing media and how it differs from soil at grade.
*Learn how green roof plant palettes and growing media can be specified to enhance stormwater management, energy efficiency, and biodiversity.
*Learn how plant and growing media selection can impact maintenance requirements.
Participants will receive a reference manual; CEC's are approved by a variety of Associations for this seminar. Participants holding a Certification should contact GRHC for more details on qualifying (www.greenroofs.org).
