FUSION GARDEN by Landscape Ontario & Genoscape Inc.

What is Fusion Landscaping?
Fusion landscaping blends traditional and modern elements to create beautiful outdoor spaces, while reducing maintenance and watering needs. It combines the art and science of horticulture with hydrology to create aesthetically pleasing landscapes that optimize storm water management and enhance the environment. Fusion landscaping uses rainwater as a resource, instead of directing it away from a property. As and example, rainwater coming from downspouts can be directed into a rain garden, allowing the water to be absorbed by the plants and soil.

Interested in learning more?
Landscape Ontario, the Region of Peel and the Regional Municipality of York, will be working with Genoscape Inc to create a spectacular garden to demonstrate fusion elements. Drop by and we will be happy to answer any of your questions.

Be sure to visit the Toronto Flower Show to see how floral designers interpret family traits and relationships. Recognize your family in any of them?

"Gathering of the Clan", "Family Circle", "Dysfunctional", "Extended Family" and more will be interpreted through designs never before seen at the flower show, such as reflective, pave, transparency and tapestry. There will also be the old favourites too, it wouldn't be a flower show without a mass or miniature! International entries from 10 different countries will interpret "Relatively Speaking". The horticultural specimens and Special exhibits are sure to be crowd pleasers.

Back by popular demand are the "Pop-ups", demonstrations or mini workshops by our very talented Garden Club of Toronto members. Engage with our visual "Artists in the garden" as they paint, sculpt and sketch. Watch for the "You Be the Judge" signs at select design and horticultural exhibits and mark your ballot.

Bring your family and make it a truly engaging Family Affair.

Mark and Ben Cullen would like us to reflect together for a moment on the very popular tradition of giving long stem cut roses on Valentine's Day. We know that this is a crowd pleaser, but then, are you trying to please the crowd or your sweetheart?

FACT: Roses are exotic. They originated elsewhere. Notwithstanding the native 'wild rose of Alberta', roses as we know them in the garden originated in far reaching lands. Give your Valentine a journey to another part of the world to see roses as neither of you have seen them before. England is the home of modern day rose breeding. Go to the famous rose breeding grounds of the David Austen Rose garden near Coventry (www.davidaustenroses.com). Tour the rose gardens of Hampton Court (www.hamptoncourt.org.uk). If the timing works, go to the... (continue reading)

SMALL SPACE, BIG DESIGNS

Please Living in a condo or apartment doesn't mean you have to give up gardening. In fact, you have prime real estate for a small space garden.

There are so many opportunities now, whether you want to grow vegetables, flowers or create an outdoor room as an oasis in the urban jungle. You can use hanging boxes, go vertical and eve build an elevated garden box.

We invite you to drop by our Balcony Garden Showcase to see how creative our designers can be in a 8' x 10' space. This year's designers include AKa Designs, Sylvia Szot Landscape Consultant, The Growing Connection, Terrace Creations and the Canada Blooms Team.

Small space gardening can be a little daunting for gardeners, but that shouldn't prevent you from trying out your green thumb. In fact, small gardens can be even more rewarding because not only do you get the pleasure of gardening, but you also get to show off your planning creativity.

Canada Blooms and Oaks Landscape Products are pleased to announce the return of the Do Up The Doorsteps and Backsteps, the small space showcase. These builders realize a good design is essential because of the limited room to grow, and they know how to check out their innovative ideas for creating a big impact in a 150-300 sq.ft. space.

Come see the design talents of AKa Designs, Cedarbrook Landscaping, DPR Landscape, ExperTrees, Green Art Landscaping, Greer Design Group, Ink To Earth Landscape Design, Janet Cox and Landscape Design by Jodie Munshaw, as they show you gardens that are a colourful and comfortable use of limited space.

If you have a landscape question, drop by booth G17A and let Neil Masson of ExperTrees and his crew provide the answers.

Don't miss presentations on Small Space and Container Gardening by Sean James, Joanna Blanchard, Mark Cullen, Robert Patterson, Eric Klaver and Vegepod.

SO MUCH TO SEE AND DO

Proven Winners searches the world to bring you vibrant flowering annuals, perennials and shrubs that deliver the most beautiful garden performance. Drop by the Proven Winners "Must See Plants" Showcase at Canada Blooms for a peek at what is new and exciting for the 2019 growing season, you are sure to fall in love.

Here are just five that you won't want to miss:

1. Angelface® Cascade White Angelonia
Gardeners love summer snapdragons for their extreme heat, humidity and drought tolerance. Until now they were strictly upright plants that make for showy thrillers in containers and landscapes. The new Angelface Cascades varieties are different in that they have larger flowers and have branches reaching outward and downward. This makes them perfect for hanging baskets and upright containers as a filler and a spiller. Pair them with other sun loving annuals and they will easily weave their way in and around to create full combination containers with their all summer blooms. Full sun, 8-14" in height with a spread of 12-30".
