June 20, 2017 – When honouring fallen soldiers with new tree plantings, it makes it an extra special event to have their families involved.

The Highway of Heroes Living Tribute is excited to announce that it will be partnering with Aeroplan and Avis Car Rental later this month in an effort to encourage Canadians to donate their Aeroplan Miles to the program. From June 26 to July 2, Aeroplan and Avis will each match all miles donated to the Highway of Heroes Living Tribute (up to 500,00 miles) to be used for fundraising purposes and to bring special representatives, silver cross mothers, regimental peers and families of the fallen to planting ceremonies. This will triple the impact of Aeroplan miles donated by individuals.

“We are thrilled to work with Avis and Aeroplan on this great initiative,” said Scott Bryk, Executive Director of the Highway of Heroes Living Tribute. “This is a perfect opportunity for Canadians to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have given their lives for our Country and our freedom, and honour the families they have left behind.”

With help from Canadians, the Highway of Heroes Living Tribute is creating a living, breathing memorial along the Highway 401 corridor — known as the Highway of Heroes — for the Canadians in our families and communities who served and gave their lives in combat and peacekeeping missions.

“Highway of Heroes is planting 117,000 trees along this 170km stretch of highway and we’re proud to work alongside our long-time partner Avis to help support this historic tribute,” said Kevin O’Brien, Chief Client Officer, Aeroplan.  “Members can also join us to help make a lasting impact by donating Aeroplan Miles to benefit this living legacy to honour our Canadian veterans.”

“Our connection with military heroes dates back to our founder, Warren Avis, who was a fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II,” said Stephen Wright, Senior Vice President, Travel, Partnerships and Associations, Avis Budget Group. “We are committed to supporting the communities in which we serve and are proud to join Aeroplan in support of the Highway of Heroes Tribute Project.”

About Highway of Heroes
When is a tree more than just a tree? The answer is when the tree is part of a memorial to honour Canada’s fallen heroes. The mission of the Highway of Heroes Living Tribute is simple: To honour Canada’s war heroes by planting 2,000,000 trees between Trenton and Toronto - one for each Canadian that has ever served in the Armed Forces.  Of those, 117,000 will be planted directly along this stretch of the 401 - one tree for each Canadians that lost their life while serving. The Highway of Heroes Living Tribute is made possible by contributions provided by Mark’s Choice, Landscape Ontario, TD, Maple Leaves Forever, the Garden Club of Toronto, Aeroplan and donations from Canadians from coast to coast.
